From the liner note: In today's media-saturated environment, it is virtually impossible to ignore the plight of millions of people who live in developing nations around the world. Poverty. Disease. Political injustices. As difficult and real as those circumstances are, however, they are only part of the global story- and not by any measure the most important part. The essence of any country lies deep within the souls of its people- their spirit, their aspirations, their passion. Capturing that essence is what Bill Galardi intended when he began his photographic expedition to Peru in July of 2002. Facing his own share of life challenges, including a recent diagnosis of epilepsy and an overwhelming desire to escape the mundane, Galardi ventured beyond the bonds of 35 years in banking to pursue his true passion. The result is this remarkable collection of compelling photographs that reveals the heart and soul of a people and a nation. About the Artist: Born in New York City, Bill Galardi migrated to Georgia with his family at the age of four. After college and a brief stint in the U.S. Navy, he began a banking career that has lasted more than three decades. In 1994, he moved to Gainesville, Georgia where he launched a local branch of Community Bank & Trust, where he currently servs as president. In the latter half of 2002, inspired by the work of noted French photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson, Galardi embarked on a series of photographic journeys that took him to Maine, Israel, Italy and Peru. The publication of Passion of Peru is Galardi's first published photographic journal and represents his decision to turn a lifetime passion for photography into a career. |
