Exploring the Power of Tertiary Colors
Experience two days of guided methods for pushing color beyond conventional ideas. Color is to painting what notes are to music. Learning how to break out of conventional ideas about color mixing is like adding diminished and augmented chords to a melody. We will explore tertiary complements and tertiary triads to find new applications for creating shadows, luminosity, shimmering effects and non-conventional approaches for fall, spring and winter landscape colors.
Rather than producing finished paintings, workshop participants will do several studies aimed toward enhancing each individual’s overall ability to interpret and create color. The studies will include subjects from which possible future paintings might be made.
