Quinlan's Summer Exhibitions! Four exhibitions running June 3 - August 14, 2010. VANGUARD, A JURIED EXHIBITON HONORING GEORGIA ART EDUCATORS Art Educators are in the forefront of art, creating, exploring, researching and taking risks that enable them to pave the way for developing artists to follow. For this reason, we honor them with a special summer juried exhibition, VANGUARD. This is open to all active Art Educators in Georgia. No entry fee required. Prizes awarded! First place receives an over-night stay at Lake Lanier Island Resort and a $500 Binders Art Supplies Gift Card. THE PORTRAIT SOCIETY OF ATLANTA The Portrait Society of Atlanta is a non-profit organization of portrait artists whose main purpose is to educate the public to a greater awareness of the portrait as a valid and valuable art form. At the same time we enrich our members by offering a variety of services. Magazines, special programs and exhibitions are activities from which our local and national membership can benefit.
FAMILY MATTERS, SCULPTOR VANESSA GRUBBS, MANA HEWITT & STEVE HEWITT Vanessa Grubbs hails from Columbia, South Carolina. In 1997 she received a Bachelor of Art degree from Winthrop University in Rock Hill South Carolina, and an MFA in Ceramics from Georgia State University. She is currently Brenau University’s Gallery Director. Vanessa is a fourth generation artist. All of her life Vanessa has been creating; from mud-pies in the back yard - to dresses for her dogs, to the pottery you see today. This is her first exhibition at the Quinlan. Mana Hewitt, Vanessa’s mother is also exhibiting was an instructor at Columbia College, and the University of South Carolina. Presently she is the Gallery Director of McMaster Gallery and teaches Digital Imaging and Introduction to Art in the Department of Art at USC. Steve Hewitt, A graduate of the University of SC (Columbia) with a BFA and MA (ABT) in ceramics. He has been an active studio artist for over 35 years. His work has been included in numerous solo and group exhibitions regionally and nationally TRANSITIONS: SOLO EXHIBITION FEATURING ARTIST CHARLES YOUNG WALLS After an initial foray into equestrian art and portraiture in the late 80’s and early 90’s, Charles then spent a decade eschewing the public eye while honing his painting skills in the commercial arena. In the last few years, he has returned to the field of portraiture and other fine art. He enjoys a growing reputation as an award winning painter and has exhibited in numerous shows in the South, as well as San Antonio and New York City. Charles and his wife currently live in the Atlanta area. He is a member of the Portrait Society of America, an Associate Member of Oil Painters of America and a Signature Member of the Atlanta Fine Arts League. Charles is also a member of the Quinlan and Quinlan Instructor. More Than a Likeness: Capturing Character
An Evening with Charles Young Walls portrait painting demonstration Thursday, June 24th 6-8 PM. Charles Young Walls will paint a Portrait Demo. Please come and see the delicate process it takes to create a stunning portraiture. Charles will divulge critical areas that artists can cultivate and hone their craft into painting meaningful and thought provoking stances that the human figure can create. This Grassroots Arts Program is supported in part by the Georgia Council for the Arts through the appropriations of the Georgia Assembly.
