“Eighty-One Pots”
All art begins as an abstract.

From that beginning, an artist can go in any direction in whatever style chosen. I tend to dig in a little deeper and paint realistically.

For “Pot #1”, I set up a still life using nine pots picked at random from our studio’s vast array of junk.

After completing the first “Pot”, I decided it was easier to move around a few pots than to trouble myself with an entirely new set up.

And so it went. Second, third, etc. I felt (along about the fifth) that a little more family resemblance would improve the look. So I started revising. One, two, etc.

It became a mishmash, but I pushed on.

Being a touch lazy, I figured that nine paintings (“Eighty-One Pots”) were all I could endure. Besides, I liked the symmetry of that!

Finished, I set up all the canvases against the wall and discovered that I didn’t create nine realistic paintings… but one abstract.
