Quinlan Visual
Arts Center Receives $2,000 Grant from Alpha Delta
Kappa
Alpha Delta Kappa ,
headquartered in Kansas City,
MO, is an international honorary
organization of women educators dedicated to educational excellence, altruism
and world understanding. It has nearly 45,000 members in over 1,500 chapters
located in every state plus Puerto Rico and around the world in Australia, Canada,
Jamaica and Mexico. The
Foundation biennially awards over a quarter of a million dollars through its
eight scholarship and grants program.
The Quinlan Visual Arts
Center (QVAC) in Gainesville,
Georgia has
been awarded a $2,000 grant to implement the Center’s “Portfolio Series.”
This
program is designed to provide college bound art students the skills needed to
put their best foot forward at the college interview and present their work,
and therefore, themselves, in a professional manner. The series of classes and
seminars will provide high school art students instruction on developing strong
portfolios and skills that will make them competitive for scholarships and
acceptance to college art programs.
Dr. Delores Diaz, Chair
of the Education Committee at the QVAC, applied for the grant and was selected
by the Fine Arts Grants Board of the Alpha Delta Kappa Foundation. She will be
recognized at the International Convention of Alpha Delta Kappa in Greensboro, North
Carolina on July 11, 2009. Dr. Diaz is a member of
Alpha Delta Kappa’s Georgia Beta Beta Chapter.
