Ann Alexander
Artist's Statement
Even as a child, I appreciated natural beauty. I've always loved growing and arranging flowers, but never really thought of capturing their beauty by painting them. I graduated with honors from North Georgia College and State University in Dahlonega. After my children had grown, I decided to take hart classes with a group of friends, beginning at the Renaissance II Studio studying under artist Mary Lydia Banks McCrary. Starting with the basics, drawing, watercolors and oils, I learned from the ground up how to grind my own paints and stretch my own canvases. It was here that I knew I had found my passion and that the way I wanted to paint would take a lot of study and hard work.
I studied under Marc Chatov, Kevin MacPherson, Tom Browning, Ken Backhaus, Charles Sovak, David Leffel and Ann Templeton. I worked hard to learn many different styles and techniques from these wonderful artists. I discovered that I was eager to face the new challenges and opportunities of bringing brush and paint to canvas. I have always appreciated the arts, and although I had somewhat of a late start, I believe I have made up for lost time and am fufilled by painting in a way I have not before experienced.
Presently, I paint with 12 other artists at the Blue Angel Studio in Gainesville, Georgia. I am fortunate and grateful to be a part of something that I love and that I find to be fun and exciting. Working with artists and people who appreciate the arts pushes me to be a better painter. I have been and will continue to be inspired by the beauty of flowers, a favorite subject of mine. I'm continually surprised by how things and events from my past influence my work. I am most grateful for the interesting artists with whom I now paint and can't imagine a life without art!
