Once the student learns to paint, he or she can paint anything. And although complicating the discipline of painting may be a lucrative business, the great painters in history wanted simple solutions. Where the beginner sees dissimilarity, the artist sees harmony and relationships. This class will deal with the elements that make good painting good, regardless of subject matter. Good painting uses the abstract elements available in the visual language of painting (color, value, edges and paint quality) to play out parts in an abstract visual concept. Understanding why certain solutions work and why others don’t is how the student can successfully learn to paint well. There will be class demonstrations and individual critiques. All levels of experience are welcome. Please click here for her supply list. Ann Templeton Workshop, March 8 - 12, 2010. Cost $700.

Wayland Moore of Emory University wrote:
"I
would like to introduce you to an artist I am very impressed with. His
art caught my eye at an exhibition and I knew I wanted to learn more
about him. I have been an artist for over fifty years with exhibitions
in the US and Europe, and have been an instructor for twenty-one years
with an evening class at Emory University in Atlanta. This does add up
to knowledge of what good quality art is all about. I did meet this
artist and his name in Jon Houglum. When you look at his painting of
landscapes, they turn the eyes back to the eighteenth century when
every brush stroke made a statement to the viewer. In his paintings,
you see and feel moved by the moment. All my art history from college
came rushing back with exhilaration and respect. This is an artist, Jon
Houglum, whose work you must see to realize what I speak of. “ Want to be on our mailing list?
