Debra Mager
Mosaic Florals - Cancelled
Sept 28 & 29, 2018
Saturday – Sunday
10 am – 3 pm with a lunch break
$350 (+$25 supply fee)
Material included: “fillers” like baubles and beads, glass, glue and grout.
Skill Level: all levels welcome
Mosaic florals are made from a combination of glass mosaic backdrops and found objects that substitute for flowers.
Please bring a frame you love with the glass intact. You will be working directly on the glass. Debra suggests no larger than a 11″ x 13″ or around that size if you wish to finish the project. Alternatively, you can do 2 smaller ones – 5″ x 7″ or 4″ x 6″.
Day 1 – we will cut the glass for your background and vases and glue those down. Be thinking about your color scheme. We will also start preparing your items for your bouquet and layering your arrangement out. Grouting can start if the glass is dry.
Day 2 – we grout and adhere your “flowers” to complete your arrangement. There will still be time to finish the background from Day 1 and still grout so no worries!
Please bring items to make your bouquet – jewelry, vintage brooches, beads, earrings, anything that could be used to look like flowers. Now is time to empty out all those drawers filled with your treasures!! Debra will bring “fillers” like baubles and beads, glass, glue and grout. Since the arrangement won’t be grouted, you can use materials of all kinds for your flowers – plastic, leather, metal, wood, shells, pearls. fabric, etc., you name it!! Debra has incorporated buttons, knobs, shower rings, coasters, ceramics, belt buckles- let your imagination go wild! You will receive instruction on glass cutting, different types of glass adhesives and grout.
"Loved the weekend surrounded by all your fantastic art, colorful “stuff” in wonderful displays showing your love for the process and collecting, and the lovely students. Thank you!”

Bio

Debra Mager is a self taught mosaic artist. Her unceasing desire to create art came late in life. She considers this a divine blessing, as she did not have any idea this dormant talent was waiting to come forth. She developed her craft by learning from the best mosaic teachers in the country, reading many many books on the subject, and by practice. The process of making art allows her to escape to a state of mind filled with peace, happiness and total contentment. Debra’s art is an expression of the joyful, beautiful happy things in life with a touch of whimsy. Her goal is to share the joy making her art brings to her with those who view it. And by teaching, to help others express their creative talent so that they may, too, enjoy the sheer pleasure of making art.
She considers her art, in the words of the author, Elizabeth Gilbert, “souvenirs” of her artistic journey.
"Cinderella Mosaics Is Born. A few years ago, I tried my hand at an art form I had always admired but never attempted myself. Never having actually made art, only collected it, this was definitely a crapshoot. I approached it as a hobby, considering I had a full time job, and had no idea whether I would be good at it. I read every book on the subject of mosaics, took classes, and practiced incessantly. I learned quickly, discovered a tremendous passion for the craft and have been at it ever since.
My husband came up with the name Cinderella Mosaics for two reasons. First, I felt I was living a dream, given this unexpected gift to be able to create art when I had never done it before, and second because I became obsessed with making mosaic shoes! They have since become my signature and I can’t stop making them!
Mosaics is a fascinating art form–literally everything can be “puzzled” together into mosaic art, both functional and aesthetic. We can “cover” any object, transforming it from average to spectacular. We can create pictures made of glass, or stone, or porcelain dishes. We can take the most unassuming objects and turn them into unexpected fantastic works of art. The opportunities to create in this art form are endless."
