About the Quinlan School of Art
Founded in 2021 in honor of the institution's 75th anniversary, the Quinlan School of Art offers students in grades K-12 the unique opportunity to explore their creative potential in a structured, nurturing environment. Guided by accredited educators, our program provides formal instruction that fosters artistic expression, cultural understanding, and critical thinking skills. 2025-2026 QSA Classes

Elementary Art I | Art Adventures | Ages 6-8
This early education class nurtures children’s sense of wonder while engaging them with various mediums and beginner techniques. Students are encouraged to use their natural sense of wonder to explore, play and create, while learning about the basic elements of art and some fun famous artists too!

Elementary Art II | Art Explorations | Ages 9-11
This exciting class will meet twice a week and explore painting, sculpture, collage and/or drawing in a confidence building, hands on, setting. These students will be introduced to different art styles, and various mediums, while making their own masterpieces! We will also learn about some of the great artists of history and their most famous pieces. Build confidence, have fun and learn art!

Middle School Art | Drawn Together | Ages 12-14
This engaging, hands-on class is designed to strengthen students’ understanding of the principles of art and the fundamentals of art history. With a focus on technical skill-building and creative exploration, students will grow in both confidence and artistic ability. Encouraged to experiment with a variety of mediums, they will deepen their appreciation for art while developing their own unique visual voice.

Preschool Art | Mommy & Me Class | Ages 2-4
Join us for a joyful and creative “Mommy & Me” art class designed for our youngest artists! Each session invites your child to explore a variety of art materials, discover new textures, and develop fine motor skills through fun, hands-on activities. Every lesson introduces an element of art and basic techniques in an engaging, age-appropriate way.
This class is a wonderful opportunity to bond, create, and play together in a nurturing group setting. A parent or guardian is kindly asked to attend alongside their child.

Meet Our Instructors
Ashley McRoberts-Stewart Education Coordinator

Ashley Stewart is a seasoned educational program developer, with over twenty years’ experience in creating and growing comprehensive visual and performing art programs. She is committed to provide a welcoming, eupeptic program that promotes the arts, and encourages children’s creativity and self-expression to thrive.
Growing up in a family of generational artists, Ashley began to perform musically at a young age and graced the stages of New York’s Carnegie Hall before settling down and starting her own performing and visual arts schools; each winning awards and acclimations along the way. Ashley also has educational certifications from top ranked, American Universities in: Mental Health, Developmental Psychology, Health and Humanitarian Crisis, Psychological First Aid, and more. Seeing the arts as a positive psychological outlet drives Ashley to promote and engage her community both for ingenuity, and creative expression, but also mental health awareness and healing. Ashley is excited to work with the Quinlan Visual Arts Center to engage the burgeoning community with a new captivating set of classes beginning this fall to educate, create and inspire children and adults of all ages. |

Teaching Philosophy for Elementary Visual Arts
As an art educator, I believe the most impactful classrooms are not those that produce perfect artworks—but those that nurture curiosity, confidence, and joy. My teaching philosophy centers on creating an emotionally safe and creatively rich space where students can explore, imagine, and express themselves freely. In today’s educational climate, where play and self-directed learning are often diminished, the art room becomes more than just a studio—it becomes a sanctuary. It’s a space where children are free to make bold choices, use as many colors as they’d like, reinterpret prompts in their own voice, and discover the unique ways they see the world. I strive to foster an environment alive with music, movement, and personal expression—where experimentation is encouraged, and there is no “wrong way” to make art. While I introduce foundational concepts like color theory, composition, texture, and form, I do so through open-ended, exploratory projects that prioritize process over product. I want my students to understand the “why” of art—how it connects to their feelings, experiences, and identities—rather than feeling pressure to create something flawless or exact. Art should not be a place of perfection. It should be a place of play, discovery, and becoming. That is the kind of experience I strive to create every time I teach. |
