An intro art class that is designed to help cultivate one’s connection to their artistic style and finding the form of media that suits them best. With this class, the goal is to create a safe space of individuals to harbor their talents while also encouraging the diversity of their abilities. Each class will be tailored to the students present to allow for a personal experience. We will begin the class with each student writing a word/song down that holds meaning to them. From there we will use this as a guideline for the week’s medium. I encourage everyone to think about this before entering the class, if not, spontaneity can be about beautiful thing.
Week 1: We will start out using graphite pencils and a notebook. These are the only supplies necessary to bring. Having these basic tools can be the forefront of any creativity and should be brought every class.
Week 2: We will be working with watercolor. Using different tools to try different techniques of application.
Week 3: We will be working with pens and notebook paper. Interpreting the word of the week.
Week 4: The class will be working with charcoal. We will be working with a bigger scale working with shading, pressure of the charcoal, and ways to use it.
Week 5: We will be working with oil pastels using the word of the week to interpret a piece of art.
Week 6: The last medium well be using is acrylic paint. Combining many of the techniques and ideas from previous classes to create a final piece.
Each week on Saturdays there will be an open studio between 8-10am. We encourage all students to come in if they would like to continue to work on their pieces of art. The last Saturday after the final class will be an open studio. We encourage students to come and set up their artwork and display it for their family.
