2012 Workshops

FINISH A PAINTING OF A MODEL IN A DAY with instructor Nancy Dusenberry

yellowleatherhomed.jpg

Dates: March 8 – 10 (Thurs. 1:00-4:00) (Fri. 10-4PM) (Saturday 10-4PM). Cost is $175 non-members, $150 members (+$10 model fee).

Class is for all levels.  I will do a quick demo, we will work of toned canvases, finishing a painting of the model in a day (alla prima-wet into wet).

We will learn how to be accurate with our drawing,

Learn values, color, temperature to describe the form and use edges and brushwork to orchestrate it all.

We will work to edit like the landscape painter, interpret like the still life painter and use our intuition to discern the spirit of the sitter.

A perfect likeness of the sitter with mediocre composition is a bore.  A painting with good composition but mediocre rendering might as well be a passport photo.

We will have fun!

For the most efficient use of time and in order to disseminate as much information as possible, we will be utilizing the benefits from both the outdoors and also from being in the classroom.  Instruction will include lecture and slide presentation, instructor demonstrations, class critiques, and plenty of one-on-one time with each student.  The principles taught in the class apply universally to painting the landscape in a variety of mediums.  All students are welcomed, though we will be using non petrol based paints for the week.  A field easel is required, as the class will be painting on location much of the time.

Finally, a class that deciphers the mysteries of age old concepts and breaks it down into simple, straight forward, easy to understand principles.  See what John's student are saying at www.johnpoon.com.

John’s work reflects his inspired appreciation of the landscape.  In addition, he has honed his skills as a masterful instructor teaching workshops from coast to coast and to rave reviews.  He has been featured in numerous periodicals, including Southwest Art (May, 2003) and The American Art Collector.
