Excerpt from Gainesville Times author Shannon Casas featured in today's local section "On Monday afternoon, Art in the Square officials were busy painting a banner to advertise the upcoming seventh annual festival.The banner will hang on the Georgia Mountains Center’s parking deck,
advertising what has become a tradition for Gainesville’s art scene.This year, officials expect about 100 artists will be displaying and

Printmaking: Portfolio Series with John Amoss
Six Saturdays, October 2-November 6, 9AM-12PM,
Quinlan Visual Arts Center
Cost: $100, ALL SUPPLIES INCLUDED!
This
course focuses on etching using non-hazardous materials. Students will
learn the techniques of etching and the safe use of materials and
equipment in a studio setting. A portfolio review seminar will be
included to help students analyze their work. John is an assistant
professor of art at Gainesville State College, has a MFA in Printmaking
and has also taught various fine art and commercial art courses at UGA,
and the Atlanta College of Art (now SCAD) including: Graphic Design,
Illustration, Relief Intaglio Printmaking, Beginning and Intermediate Graphics, Beginning and Intermediate Drawing, Digital Photography, Watercolor, and Art Appreciation.
This class is designed for high school students to bolster their portfolios but is open to any adult interested in the course. This class is open to all levels of experience.

On July 26, 2010, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a resolution
declaring the week following the second Sunday in September (September
12–18, this year) as Arts in Education Week. While
there are a number of established arts education-related recognitions
already (such as Music in Our Schools Month or National Dance Week),
this is the first congressional resolution to recognize all the
disciplines: music, theater, visual arts, and dance.
