Juror's Statement
_ I was so incredibly honored to be asked by Amanda to judge the 65th Annual Members’ Exhibition. As an arts professional it is extremely impressive that an organization is having the 65th annual anything but to have had a commitment to its members for that long is impressive indeed.
Impressive also is the word I would use to describe my first reaction to seeing the entire show. There is a breadth and depth not only of the talent on display but of the mastery and range of so many different mediums.
I would first like to share that there were so many works that I really appreciated…whether it was due to the form and content, the composition, the use of color, the restraint of the artists hand, the mastery of a technique, the surprising use of a medium or the feelings of humor, sorrow or mystery that the pieces evoked in me.
At one point there were many pieces of pink paper in the various gallery spaces. Removing pink paper was much more difficult than one can imagine.
In the end, the pieces I chose combined all the elements I just referred to. They were the ones I kept going back to--the pieces that I contemplated, thought about and still think about. To all of the artists in the show, thank you for sharing your vision-of the world, of a memory or of a time. To those chosen for recognition, a personal thanks that your works spoke so strongly to me. Congratulations to all of you for expressing your vision and to the Quinlan for showcasing it for all to see.

The most popular tradition in the history of the Quinlan, the annual Members' Exhibition showcases the work of the myriad of member-artists from Gainesville and surrounding North Georgia Communities, Atlanta and the Southeast. Each year of celebration marks yet another season of unparalleled excellence in visual arts programming and celebrates the artists that contribute to that level of excellence. The exhibition will be on view through December 2nd and is a dazzling and eclectic array of art in all media including landscapes, abstracts, still life compositions, portraits, ceramics, wood turnings and much, much more.
The opening reception will be Thursday, October 11th from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Special “Medallion Awards” will be given to those members that have volunteered their time and talents to the Quinlan.
Judging the exhibition this year is Teresa Osborn (pictured above), Executive Director of the Hudgens Center for the Arts in Gwinnett County. Teresa has worn many hats at the Hudgens Center for the Arts including volunteer, Arts League President, board member, consultant and Interim Executive Director. She graduated from the University of Georgia with a double major in English and Political Science, going on to study political science in graduate school at Vanderbilt University. She will award ribbons for Best of Show, First, Second, and Third places as well as several Honorable Mentions.
