Open Studio
Open Studio hours are now available for all classes. Enrollment includes open access to studios and equipment Friday nights and during Quinlan operating hours on Saturdays. Open studio is restricted to those enrolled in classes at the Quinlan, and is structured for practice outside of regular class times and for social growth within our classroom setting.
Expressive Arts Therapy
Expressive arts therapy can awaken creativity and strengthen problem solving skills. This creative experience can inspire self-awareness and enhance overall mood. These benefits can fit anyone. No prior art experience is necessary to enjoy the process of creating. Expressive arts therapy is another way to communicate without words.

Mixed Medium
Introduction to Interpretive Art: Session Two: April 18th- June 6th

This introduction class is designed to cultivate one’s artistic style and to find which art medium suits them best. The goal of this class is to create a safe space where students can harbor their talents and discover the diversity of their abilities. Each class will be tailored to the students present each week to allow for a personal experience. Class will begin with each student choosing a word/song that holds meaning to them. From there we will use the chosen word as a guideline for the week’s medium.

Potter's Wheel Waltz!
In this class we will focus on the uses of the potter's wheel as a tool for creating works of art with clay. This course will cover the techniques of centering clay and forming cylindrical-based works of art and is well suited for those who are new to the potter's wheel and those who have experience and are interested in honing their skills. |

In this class, students will make original functional ceramic pieces using wheel thrown techniques and hand build techniques. Students will work at their own pace. This class is tailored specifically to each individual level of experience, focusing on throwing, trimming, and glazing. Perfect class for beginners, and great for those who already are familiar with the wheel.
The class fee includes 25 pounds of clay. The class also includes communal tools, but students are welcome to bring their own tools. Suggested tools/materials • Basic pottery set (wooden knife, metal kidney, wood kidney, needle tool, wire, and sponge.) • Towel • Bucket (any container that can hold between a pint to a gallon of water) |
Drawing
Still-life Drawing: Thursdays, March 2 - April 27
This class is for any adult who is interested in drawing. The instructor will work with students step-by-step through the basics of drawing still life using graphite and colored pencils. Students will learn the fundamental principles of line, shape, form, proportion, composition, and perspective to get an accurate drawing. Students will learn how to draw a variety of interesting geometric and organic objects including vases, mugs, furniture, fruits, vegetables, and flowers. Students will learn basic drawing techniques, e.g., shading, hatching, cross-hatching, and blending. The instructor will work with students individually according to their level. All levels of adult students are welcome.

Watercolor
Session TWO (Watercolor I is a prerequisite to watercolor II)

In Exploring Watercolor I and II, Krys Pettit will give you the basics and practical knowledge of working with watercolor. You will get tips and tricks based on her real-life personal experience, watch Krys demonstrate how to paint, and practice techniques. You’ll create your own paintings and learn to develop your personal artistic style. Krys can help you overcome hesitation and gain confidence with this exciting and beautiful medium.
Krys Pettit has worked with watercolor for almost 30 years. Her love of the medium and her experience make her an expert in handling watercolor. Having taken workshops with nationally known instructors Tony Couch, Tom Lynch, and Tony Van Hasselt along with regional watercolor teachers and private instructors, Krys brings knowledge, painting demonstrations and a sense of fun to her work and teaching. |
