"Open Eyes, Minds and Hearts" to the needs of others
A special collaboration of events, built around a collection of work by award-winning photographer Al Clayton, happening in Gainesville THIS fall. Featuring the "Icons" and "Still Hungry in America" series, this special retrospective will be on view in the Green Street Gallery at the Quinlan Visual Arts Center and shall include photographs from around the south documenting people living in poverty in the 1960's, which were compiled in the book by Dr. Robert Coles "Still Hungry in America", published in 1969 and recently re-published by UGA Press with a new forward by Dr. Tom Ward, Jr.
Calendar of Events: August 8, 5-7 PM Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours at GMFB. August 15, 5-7:30 PM QVAC Fall Exhibition openings featuring a meet & greet with Dr. Tom Ward, Jr. (author of new forward to republished book "Still Hungry in America" (exhibition closes on October 5, food drive at the Quinlan for the duration of the exhibition) August 20, 4 PM Neighborhood Free Food Distribution at Good News Clinic September 3- 12 Community Food Drive September 7, 10 AM - 2 PM Empty Bowl painting at Quinlan Visual Arts Center ($8 donation) bowls to be donated to Empty Bowl. September 13, 6-9 PM Food Truck Friday at lake Lanier Olympic Park September 24, 11 AM - 1 PM Empty Bowl Luncheon at Lanier Technical College September 28 John Jarrard Foundation Songwriter's concert on the lawn at Brenau University. |
