About
This is the 27th year that Gainesville Parks and Recreation Foundation will host a butterfly release event for the community. This is a well-loved family tradition passed down through generations. Traditionally families have gathered in one of the parks in Gainesville, GA and butterflies are released. Children and adults alike are always in awe of this connection with our natural world. Photographs and memories are made. There has always been an art component and this year the Gainesville Parks and Recreation Foundation is partnering with the Quinlan Visual Art Center who will host the Butterfly Release Art Contest. The contest will take place at the Quinlan on Sept. 8th. Students from Gainesville City Schools, Hall County Schools, Private schools and Home schooled (over 36,000 students) will be eligible to enter. Students will each be given the same supplies, and the works will be created on site. Contestants will be judged in the following categories: High school, Middle school, Grades 5 and 4, Grades 3 and 2, Grades 1 and K. There will be cash prizes awarded to a winner in each category as well as 10 honorable mention prizes. Signs will be posted throughout the parks with pictures of the winners and their artwork.
