About the Instructor Lesther Martin
|
Lesther Martin is originally from Guatemala, where he was raised until his college years before moving to the United States with his family in search of greater opportunities. Growing up in a household rooted in service—his parents served as pastors—he developed a deep appreciation for community, dedication, and care for others. He pursued a degree in Early Childhood Education at Gainesville State College, now the University of North Georgia, where his passion for teaching began to take shape. In 2022, he furthered his education by earning a Master’s degree in Art Education from Piedmont University.
Alongside his studies, Lesther continued exploring his love for ceramics, discovering that working with clay was more than a creative outlet—it was a calling. Since 2013, he has been teaching both wheel throwing and hand building at the Quinlan Visual Arts Center, while also working with a variety of students through programs at the University of North Georgia and other local organizations. His experience includes serving as a teaching assistant to Joe Hall and working as a part-time potter at Mark of the Potter in Georgia. For several years, Lesther balanced his work as an educator with Hall County Schools and his growing commitment to ceramics. In May 2024, he made the decision to transition fully into pottery, focusing on creating, teaching, and expanding his artistic practice. He currently serves as the administrator of the Quinlan Visual Arts Center ceramic studio, where he continues to teach and mentor students of all ages. Today, Lesther’s work is driven by both craftsmanship and community, blending his background in education with his passion for clay. He remains committed to sharing his knowledge, encouraging creativity, and building meaningful connections through the art of ceramics. |
