All of the artists live and work in North Georgia, in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains of Georgia. They work in various mediums including oils, watercolor, acrylic, pastels, multi-media and sculpture. Subject matter is a varied as their mediums, but they all share a love of art and a joy in sharing it with others. These award-winning artists exhibit their work in various galleries and juried shows around the country.
“As We See It” Artists Sherry Needle and Fran Milner - Sherry Needle has spent her adult life exploring a variety of avenues to indulge her passion for art. With the tender nudge from her grandmother saying, “If you don’t do something with your art, you will miss your calling,” she started drawing and has never stopped. Her formal education included attending the State University of Iowa and graduating from the American Academy of Art in Chicago. After several years of working at Atlanta’s Fernbank Museum of Natural History, where she participated in creating the permanent displays, she decided to pursue her passion for traditional oil painting. A versatile painter, Sherry’s artistic
output includes plein air paintings, still lifes and the most classical of artistic subjects, the human figure.
Artist Fran Milner - As a professional medical illustrator specializing in the presentation of health information for the consumer health audience, I relax by putting my visual communication skills and sound knowledge of human anatomy to use painting portraits, figures and whatever else I find appealing. Before heading to medical school to study illustration, I earned my undergraduate degree in painting and printmaking. After relocating from the San Francisco Bay Area to Atlanta, in 2000, I resumed my interest in painting. I presently study under Marc Chatov, firmly believing
that no matter where one is their career, there is always more to learn. After years of painting red for arteries, blue for veins and making sure everything is technically accurate, I thoroughly enjoy having a full palette of color available to me to paint the subject matter, as I please.
“Oh, The Places I Go…” Artist Cynthia Howard - Cynthia has been painting landscapes and waterscapes to evoke memories of places she has seen or dreamed about. Her resources come from having lived in Colorado, Missouri, Connecutit, and North Carolina as well as travels to many countries. She began painting over 40 years ago, experimenting in many mediums and for a time and worked with stained glass windows with work installed in churches, banks, and homes. For 20 years now she has been working for a custom home builder, specializing in interior/exterior design, working closely with clients through the complete process of building.
“Fashion Modernism: This Is Not a Movie”, Artist Jo Baskerville - Lights, Camera, Action! This is a visual experience on canvas. Shorts, documentaries, and movies about life. The life of people today and of our past. This is the stimuli for future film. Fictitious stories to entertain the viewer. I am inspired to do these works by stories not told. I constantly push myself to talk about subject matter that I feel that would be entertaining and educational. I use the fashion genre as my juxtaposition. I believe art and fashion are one. Fashion Modernism brings elements from the fashion world to the canvas to create these works of art. These works of art become intertwined with sound, cinematography, and the elements of great film.
As a native of Petersburg, Virginia, Jo has developed a love for art and fashion at an early age. Excelling in art and
art history while attending Norfolk State University, he received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Fine Art.
