The Quinlan is the first of nine host facilities statewide selected for this distinction by Georgia Council for the Arts. The exhibition has been planned through a partnership with Main Street Gainesville and the Gainesville Redevelopment Authority. The exhibition will be on view from October 17 – December 8 with an opening reception on Thursday, October 24. This exhibition will coincide with the 66th Annual Members’ Exhibition (CLICK HERE for more info.), the longest tradition at the center, featuring the art work of artist-members from across the southeast.
In an effort to inspire and inform Georgian’s about the power, purpose and necessity of art, 28 of the most significant pieces from the expansive 600+ piece state collection have been selected to represent and celebrate the long history of art and culture in Georgia. The Collection is an extensive, vibrant chronicle of work created by Georgia artists from the 1970s to the 1990s. Each piece in the collection was juried by a panel of experts. The Collection is a state asset that serves as an educational tool, preserves the state's artistic heritage and disseminates knowledge about the art and artists of Georgia. Included in the exhibit will be original works by renowned Georgia artists such as Benny Andrews, Lucinda Bunnen, Herbert Creecy, Howard Finster, Ruth Laxson, and Nellie Mae Rowe. The exhibit will hang for four weeks in each community. The exhibit is intended to serve as a springboard for additional arts and culture activities that serve to celebrate and increase awareness for the local cultural community and increase tourism.
