“Cruising Southern Waters” Artists of The American Society of Marine Artists
The American Society of Marine Artists was founded in 1978 by a small group of the country's leading maritime artists. They were looking for mutual support and companionship, to enhance public awareness of the genre, to explore and record the history of American marine art, and to encourage the work of newcomers. Their mission is to
recognize, encourage and promote marine art and maritime history; to encourage cooperation and free interchange among artists, art teachers, art students, craftsmen, publishers and others with interests related to marine art and the
history of marine art; to provide a registry for artists, to hold exhibitions, and to promote the study and improvement of marine art. ASMA is dedicated to fulfilling an informational and educational role. Visit the ASMA website HERE.
“Exploring Acadia”, Artist Debra Nadelhoffer -
Debra Nadelhoffer's paintings reflect an emotional response to her subject. Attracted by effects of light and atmosphere, she attempts to convey her impressions through the use of color and close attention to the play of light on surfaces. Her subject matter is varied, as she is equally fascinated with landscape, still life and the figure. Debra's work has been featured in national and international publications. Her oil and pastel paintings have been accepted into numerous exhibitions including Oil Painters of America Eastern 2009 Exhibition, American Society of Marine Artists 30th Anniversary Exhibition, various Pastel Society of America and Southeastern Pastel Society exhibits. She is currently the President of Plein Air Painters of Georgia, past-president and member of excellence of Southeastern Pastel Society, Signature Member of Degas Pastel Society, a member of American Society of Marine Artists and an Associate Member of Oil Painters of America. Debra currently resides in Dawsonville, GA. Visit her website HERE.
“Making Waves”, Artist Judith Surowiec
Judith Surowiec grew up and married in Buffalo, NY. Inspired by her artist mother and the work of Charles Burchfield, she studied art at SUNY and graduated with a degree in Art Education. Judith and her family moved from state to state affording her the opportunity to meet new artists and become involved with the arts of each community. During one move to Atlanta(there were four), she began studying with Joseph Perrin. Her work made a dramatic change. Now, working with acrylics and colored pencil, she paints with a colorful energy. Sometimes she folds or crumples a canvas for the challenge and surprise. This process adds a unique "signature" to her paintings. Judith's work reflects her thoughts and experiences. "I feel like a historian for my time... my life. I paint the truth, but some people don't believe me. They say I have a good imagination... perhaps."
Judy's work can be found in many private and corporate collections throughout the US, Europe, and
Canada. Vist her website HERE.
"Light in the Landscape", Artist Amanda Carder Lovett
Amanda’s style is realism with an appreciation of impressionism. She has a fascination with light, reflection and movement, and whether she paints a landscape, a still life or a portrait, it’s always an intriguing journey in
which she hopes to include the viewer. Amanda states “I find myself looking at life with increasing wonder as I grow as an artist. I am surrounded by a world of beautiful moments; my desire is to express the simple details that make those
moments exceptional.”
Amanda was born in 1963 in Atlanta, Georgia, and grew up in nearby Austell before settling in Cartersville. She has always had a fascination with drawing. As a child, she could not sit still without pencil and paper in hand, sketching whatever she saw. Visit her website HERE.
