Charles J. Thurmond Youth Art Scholarship Awards
Kiwanis Club of Gainesville's
Visual Arts Showcase
The Kiwanis Club of Gainesville invites the students of your school to participate in the 2016 Kiwanis Visual Arts Showcase. This competition provides an opportunity for middle and high school students to receive county and statewide recognition for their artwork. In addition, this is an opportunity for local high school students to win scholarship funds to help finance their college education!
The artwork of all participants will be on display at The Quinlan Visual Arts Center during the competition. The reception which will be held March 18th, 2016 from 5:30-7:00 pm will also serve as the venue for the visual arts awards for all artists and their work. The Kiwanis Awards Luncheon will recognize and award the three scholarship winners, "Best of Show" awards only.The Kiwanis Awards Luncheon is scheduled for noon on Tuesday, May 3rd at12:00 pm the First Baptist Church Banquet Hall.
General Rules for Contestants
All contestants must be students in good standing with their respective school/home school organization and currently registered in middle or high school in HALL COUNTY.
Work in the following media will be accepted: painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, ceramics, sculpture, metal
work, graphic design, mixed media and crafts.
A contestant may not win more than one award.
MIDDLE SCHOOL CONTESTANTS CAN ONLY SUBMIT ONE PIECE OF ARTWORK PER STUDENT. (Due to the overwhelming entries for this particular group, we have to scale back the number of entries).
The completed application is to be submitted with the artwork upon delivery by Thursday, March 10th to The Quinlan Art Center.

At the county level, the following scholarships will be awarded for Best of Show, for 10th, 11th and 12th grade artists only:
1st place $2,500
2nd place $1,500
3rd place $1,000
Scholarships awarded at the County Competition, as well as the State Competition, will be presented in the form of a check issued to a college or university of the student's choice.
The top four artists from each grade will receive ribbons which will be awarded at the reception and awards ceremony at the Quinlan Arts Center on Friday, March 18th from 5:30-7:00 pm. The three scholarship winners and their instructors will be recognized and awards will be presented at the Kiwanis Awards Luncheon on May 3, 2016 at noon at the First Baptist Church Banquet Hall. Parents of the scholarship winners are also invited to the Kiwanis Awards Luncheon. The winning artwork will be on display at the Awards Luncheon.
The 1st place students from each grade, and an honorable mention contestant, will be submitted as entrants in the state competition. At the state competition, The Kiwanis Memorial Foundation is providing $5000 in scholarship awards to the Best of Show winners. As in the county competition, scholarships awarded to the winning artists by the Foundation will be presented in the form of a check issued to a college or university of the winning artist's choice. In addition, ribbons will also be awarded to the artists from each grade placing 1st, 2nd, 3rd and honorable mention at the state and county competitions.
