Keith Burgess

In my Nature
Picture
About the Artist
Keith Burgess is a talented artist who mainly works with oil paint. He has had many solo gallery shows, received commissions and awards, and is also a teacher and show juror. He studied art at Valdosta State University and Georgia Southwestern State University, earning a B.A. Degree. After college, he worked as a graphic artist/illustrator for a major publishing corporation in Atlanta. Although he paused painting during the early years of his corporate career, his desire to paint again led him to pursue a full-time fine art career in the early 1990s. He began studying with well-known artists from the Art Students League, NYC. In 2003, he left the corporate world to focus on painting full-time.

Burgess says, "Though I have spent many years painting and drawing the human form, my true passion is the landscape. I find a spiritual and primal truth in the landscape. I feel most alive and in tune with nature when I am painting outdoors ('en plein air', as the French say), a practice I started as a teenager. I am honored to continue the tradition of representational painters who came before me. From a young age, I have been drawn to the early Impressionists, particularly Monet, and I continue to be influenced by their methods and theories."

Marty Levine

Unexpected Light
Picture
About the Artist
Marty Levine is a native of Gainesville and a graduate of Gainesville High School and The Georgia Institute of Technology, from which he received a degree in civil engineering. Marty and his wife Cindy – a Texas
native – moved back to the area in 2023 after he retired from a 37-year career with ExxonMobil. Marty is an avid photographer and, before moving to Georgia, sold his work in art shows in Texas. He captures various subjects, including landscapes, wildlife, space, still life, microscopy, high-speed captures, and architecture. His travels around the world have allowed him to collect images of many countries. He experiments with different types of light, including infrared and ultraviolet, using unique cameras and filters.

The images on display in “Unexpected Light” are a particular specialty.      Marty has constructed a studio in his home where he uses strobes, triggering devices, and equipment of his own design to capture stunning high-speed images. The setup for these images can take many hours or days. They all involve movement, many employ bullets, arrows, and even explosives. All the images are single shots taken in the dark; not screen grabs from video, which makes how he catches the action even more challenging. In most cases, explaining how he came up with the idea and the techniques utilized bring even more interest to the images.
Marty typically prints these images on metal to bring out the best detail and vibrant colors. Most of these images require millisecond precision, which supports Marty’s view of photography.

“Photography is sacred, as it captures a moment in time that will never recur.”

Patricio Marin

Color play, a beautiful journey.
Picture
About the Artist
Patricio Marín is a Nicaraguan painter from Susucayan, Nueva Segovia. After high school, he was searching for direction, and at the suggestion of his mother and the town priest, he left Nicaragua to take a drawing and painting course at the School of Fine Arts in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. He found himself at home immersed in color and pigments, and in 2000, he returned to Nicaragua to dedicate himself to painting. Since then, he has used lithographic ink to paint landscapes in the "style of Bob Ross," his technique has evolved to using oil on canvas and aluminum panels in a hyper-realistic style.

"Soy un copiador de la realidad, mi intención es tomar fragmentos de la belleza y guardarlos en un lienzo."

My art is a reflection of the world's natural beauty, capturing its essence and depth. Each stroke on my canvas is a testament to my intention to replicate reality, to take fragments of this beauty and immortalize them in my works.

About the Artist
In my life’s darkest moments, photography emerged as my sanctuary for artistic expression, a beacon of light guiding me through everything.
However, this journey didn’t begin with the click of a camera’s shutter.
It was Mother Nature’s embrace that first healed me. She guided me through her sacred realms with moments alone on reflective hikes, journeys near and far, and in every quiet moment, gazing into the night skies or burning embers of a peaceful fire. In her majestic presence, I rediscovered the divine. This reawakening allowed me to see the world anew through a fresh lens, but never losing nostalgia along the way.

Photography quickly became my sacred language, a calling that enabled me to articulate my inner thoughts and visions. In turn, I also forged new and lasting connections with others, rekindling a lost faith in humanity. This odyssey of self-discovery through a lens has been more than enlightening. It has opened my eyes to new possibilities and exploration despite the setbacks I faced along the way. Photography also allowed me a chance to reconnect and strengthen my relationships with my children and the rest of my family.

In my journey, photography has imparted valuable wisdom and lessons of patience, gratitude, and peace that I wouldn’t trade for anything. The subjects of my images may not be of my own making, but my soul is infused in every shot nonetheless. I am a part of them just as much as they are a part of me. Each shot carries this energy, and I strive to continue and embed that feeling in every frame.

My ultimate aspiration is to impart that soul and connection to every viewer, allowing them to connect with my art on a much deeper and more personal level. I invite them to perceive the world through my eyes and my heart. With each frame, I pass on the whispers of nature, the essence of a fleeting moment, and the immortalization of what is seen through my gaze.

This is the essence of my art and a deeply personal journey that I am honored and blessed to share, one photograph at a time.
